One of our residents, Maggie Flostrand wrote this poem in the spring of 2021 while she was recovering from a head injury. She was feeling very hyperactive and very creative! With permission from Maggie we wanted to share this poem.

A Senior’s Voice.

I am a senior, senior, so please be patient with me.
I have some failing faculties and am not like I used to be.
When people ask me how I’m feeling, I lie, and say “I’m fine.”
But now, on this one occasion, I’m gonna lay it on the line.
So heed my words, dear readers. All that I say here is true.
You may not like to hear this, but this could happen to you.
Catscans, and an M.R.I. show that I still have a brain.
But there are some occasions when I say –
“Please tell me your name again.”
My joints are stiff and achy, often get real sore,
and that damned arthritis, has even found my jaw!
My eyes and ears aren’t quite so good, and I don’t walk so fast
But – enough of all this whining, let’s put that in the past.
So……now I will be positive – I dwell here in the West,
All my friends and family really are the best.
I am so lucky where I live, here people rarely frown.
It’s Ladysmith ( or paradise ) our beautiful little town.
